NFL Week 15: Seats Will Be Filling Up Fast for the Postseason

The reckoning is upon those with dreams of making it to the NFL postseason. The Chiefs have clinched the top spot in the AFC West for the fourth consecutive year and the Saints have secured their third straight NFC South title, while the Ravens have clinched a playoff berth, are currently the #1 seed in the AFC and are a win or tie against the Jets from clinching the AFC North. The Niners can secure a playoff spot with a win or a tie against Atlanta, New England can clinch with a win or a tie against Cincy, and the Bills can punch their ticket to the postseason with a win over Pittsburgh. Everybody else needs help.

On the flip side, the Bucs, Panthers, Falcons, Lions, Cards, Washington, the G-men, Chargers, Jets, Jaguars, Dolphins and Bengals have all been eliminated and the Colts and Broncos are a loss away from elimination.

Thursday, December 12
New York Jets (5-8) vs Baltimore Ravens (11-2)
8:20pm ET on FOX/NFL
A pass interference call on third down helped set up Sam Ficken’s game-winning field goal as time expired to give the Jets a 22-21 win over the Dolphins. Lamar Jackson had his worst game of the season, completing 16 of 25 for 145 yards, 3 TDs and a pick, but it was still enough to propel the Ravens to a 24-17 win over the Bills and secure a spot in the playoffs.

Sunday, December 15
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-7) vs Detroit Lions (3-9-1)
1pm ET on FOX
Jameis Winston overcame 3 interceptions, including a pick six, to complete 33 of 45 for 456 yards and 4 touchdowns, rallying his team from a 14-point 3rd-quarter deficit to win 38-35. The Lions were held scoreless until a meaningless TD just before the two-minute warning, on a day when QB David Blough threw 2 picks and was sacked 5 times for 44 yards in Detroit’s 20-7 loss to the Vikings.

Chicago Bears (7-6) vs Green Bay Packers (10-3)
1pm ET on FOX
Mitch Trubisky passed for 3 touchdowns and ran for a fourth to lead the Bears to a 31-24 win over the Cowboys — the game was not nearly as close as the score (Dallas scored 10 points in the last 4 and a half minutes). On a day when the Washington pass rush kept Aaron Rodgers mostly under wraps with 4 sacks, Green Bay’s Aaron Jones ran 16 times for 134 yards and a touchdown in a 20-15 Packers victory.

Philadelphia Eagles (6-7) vs Washington Redskins (3-10)
1pm ET on FOX
The Eagles found themselves down 17-3 at the half against the Giants and Eli Manning, but managed to reel off 20-unanswered points for a 23-17 overtime win on a day when Carson Wentz competed 33 of 50 for 325 yards and 2 TDs. Washington held Aaron Rodgers to 195 yards passing and sacked him 4 times, but it wasn’t enough as the Green Bay ground game picked up the slack with 174 yards and a TD in a 20-15 Redskins loss.

Seattle Seahawks (10-3) vs Carolina Panthers (5-8)
1pm ET on FOX
The Seahwks were held in check by a Rams D that didn’t allow them an offensive touchdown, as Russell Wilson was sacked 5 times for 43 yards, threw an interception and fumbled once in Seattle’s 28-12 loss. Carolina QB Kyle Allen was sacked 5 times for 48 yards and was intercepted twice as the Panthers fell 40-20 to Atlanta.

Los Angeles Rams (8-5) vs Dallas Cowboys (6-7)
4:25pm ET on FOX
The Rams defense was dominant against the Seahawks, while Jared Goff passed for 293 yards and 2 TDs in the Rams’ 28-12 win. The Cowboys continue to circle the drain, losing 31-24 last week to the Bears, as Dak Presott managed just 334 yards and one TD on 49 pass attempts. It’s amazing these clowns are still atop the NFC East.

Atlanta Falcons (4-9) vs San Francisco 49ers (11-2)
4:25pm ET on FOX
Atlanta QB Matt Ryan became just the 10th man in NFL history to pass for 50,000 yards, as he completed 20 of 34 for 313 yards and 2 TDs in a 40-20 drubbing of the Panthers. Ryan is 1,196 yards behind John Elway for 9th place all time. The Niners won an old fashioned shootout with the Saints, prevailing 48-46 on a field goal with the clock expiring, the fifth and final lead change in the game’s last 31 minutes.

Buffalo Bills (9-4) vs Pittsburgh Steelers (8-5)
8:20pm ET on NBC
The Bills defense did a better job than anyone else this year of containing Lamar Jackson, holding him to 145 yards passing and 40 yards rushing, but he still managed to pass for 3 TDs, as Buffalo lost 24-17. The Steelers’ Diontae Johnson did a little bit of everything in his team’s 23-17 win over Arizona, as he had one carry for 16 yards, hauled in 6 passes for 60 yards and a touchdown and ran a punt back 85 yards for a touchdown.

Monday, December 16
Indianapolis Colts (6-7) vs New Orleans Saints (10-3)
8:15pm ET on ESPN
The Colts’ D had 3 picks for 104 yards and a touchdown and it still wasn’t enough to stop the Bucs’ Jameis Winston, who racked up 456 yards and 4 TDs, as Indy blew a 14-point lead midway through the 3rd quarter to lose 38-35. The Saints’ Drew Brees passed for 349 yards and 5 TDs against the Niners, and it still wasn’t enough, as his team fell 48-46 on a last-second field goal.
