Kentucky Looks To Rebound Following Shocking Loss To Evansville

There’s once again gonna be some turnover at the top of the college basketball polls, as the #1 Kentucky Wildcats suffered a huge upset against Evansville. Could this open the door for Duke to become the third team #1 in as many weeks? We’ll see. In the meantime, you can catch both Duke and Kentucky this week on Sling.

Monday, Nov. 18
Utah Valley Wolverines (3-1) vs #1 Kentucky Wildcats (2-1)
7pm ET on ESPN

Isaiah White, the Wolverines’ 6-7 guard out of Rancho Cucamonga, is averaging 14 points and 10 rebounds, but missed his teams’ recent 66-55 win over UAB for reasons the internet refuses to divulge. The ‘Cats are coming off a huge upset at the hands of the Evansville Aces, as they fell 67-64 on a night when they hit just 23.5% of their 3-point attempts.

Colgate Raiders (1-2) vs #22 Auburn Tigers (4-0)
8pm ET on SEC

The Raiders made just 5 of their 19 shots from inside the arc in their 70-54 defeat last week at the hands of Syracuse. Samir Doughty dropped 33 points in Auburn’s 116-70 trouncing of Cal State-Northridge and now leads the team in scoring with 18.5 ppg.

Tuesday, Nov. 19
UMBC Retrievers (4-0) vs #23 LSU Tigers (3-0)
7pm ET on SEC

Brandon Horvath went for 13-12 in the Retrievers’ 60-48 win over Georgian Court and is now averaging 12.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. The Tigers took down Nicholls State 75-65 on Saturday, as Emmitt Williams and Darius Day each chipped in with double-doubles.

Maine Black Bears (1-2) vs #20 Washington Huskies (2-1)

Sergio El Darwich poured in 21 points to go along with 4 boards and 5 dimes on Saturday, but it wasn’t enough, as the Black Bears fell 71-62 to their cross-state rivals, Portland. The Huskies suffered their first defeat of the season on Saturday, falling 75-62 to Tennessee, wasting Nahziah Carter’s 18-12 night.

Wednesday, Nov. 20
South Carolina Upstate Spartans (1-3) vs #4 Louisville Cardinals (4-0)
7pm ET on ACCN

The Spartans went just 3 of 25 from downtown in their most recent game, an 80-57 defeat at the hands of Virginia Tech, and are now shooting just 24.8% from beyond the arc. The Cards held North Carolina Central to only 19 points in the first half of their 87-58 victory, as Jordan Nwora led all scorers with 17 points.

Elon Phoenix (2-2) vs #6 UNC Tar Heels (3-0)
8:30pm ET on ACCNX

The Phoenix fell 70-50 to Michigan on Friday, despite Marcus Sheffield II’s 22 points on 9-of-16 shooting. The Tar Heels beat Gardner-Webb 77-61 on Friday, thanks to 28 points from Cole Anthony, who now leads the team with 27.3 ppg and is third in rebounds at 7.3.

#15 Florida Gators (2-2) vs Saint Joseph’s Hawks (2-2)

The Gators fell to the UConn Huskies Sunday night, 62-59, as Kerry Blackshear’s team-high 15 points and 8 boards weren’t enough to close the gap. The Hawks are coming off an 85-66 loss to Loyola in which Ryan Daly went 13-10-6.

#2 Duke Blue Devils (4-0) vs Cal Bears (3-0)
9pm ET on ESPN2

The Blue Devils beat Georgia State on Friday 74-63 behind Tre Jones’ 31-point effort; Jones now leads the team with 17 points and 5.8 assists per game. On Friday, the Bears rolled over California Baptist, 82-62, as Grant Anticevich led the way with 23 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists.

Friday, Nov. 22
Mount St. Mary’s Mountaineers (1-3) vs #1 Kentucky Wildcats (2-1)
7pm ET on SEC

“The Mount” collapsed 76-61 to Lamar despite Vado Morse’s 17 points off the bench. The Wildcats are outshooting opponents 44% to 34% thanks in part to not yet having a single one of their shots blocked.

Houston Cougars (1-1) vs #14 Oregon Ducks (4-0)

On a night when Houston’s Caleb Mills scored 17 off the bench, the Cougars still lost 72-71 to BYU thanks to TJ Haws’ buzz-beater. The Ducks coasted to a 67-47 win over UT Arlington on Sunday, as Payton Pritchard led the team with 24 points and 8 boards.

Saturday, Nov. 23
#9 Virginia Cavaliers (3-0) vs UMass Minutemen (4-0)
Noon ET on ESPNEWS

The Cavs have made just 20 of 34 free throws (58.8%), while their opponents have been even worse, hitting on just 9 of 19 (47.4%). The Minutemen smoked Central Connecticut 89-43 on Saturday, as Keon Clergeot hit 7 of 8 from the floor and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe for a game-high 20 points.

Ole Miss Rebels (3-0) vs #13 Memphis Tigers (3-1)
1pm ET on ESPN3

The Rebels took down Western Michigan on Friday, 85-58 as Breein Tyree led all scorers with 20 points. The Rebs are sixth in the country with steals on 17% of their opponents’ possessions. The Tigers smoked Alcorn State 102-56 on Saturday, despite the absence of their leading scorer and rebounder, James Wiseman, who has been suspended in yet another miscarriage of decency and common sense on the part of the NCAA.
