College Hoops: Battle 4 Atlantis Should Be a Thanksgiving Preview of the Madness Ahead

It’s Thanksgiving Week, when college basketball programs from across the land are lured to exotic locations with the promise of a holiday. The best of these holiday tournaments is the Battle 4 Atlantis, with North Carolina, Oregon, Michigan, Gonzaga, Iowa State, Seton Hall, Alabama, and Southern Miss all heading down to the Bahamas to slug it out for three days while their families back home have every excuse to watch TV while eating turkey. Here’s a full look at this week’s college hoops schedule:

Monday, Nov. 25
Virginia Tech Hokies (5-0) vs #3 Michigan State Spartans (3-1)
5pm ET on ESPN2
VT drained a school record 21 3-pointers last week in their 100-64 defeat of Delaware State, the team’s fourth straight win by 20+ points. The Spartans have had a week off since their 94-46 shellacking of Charleston Southern as Xavier Tillman had a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds.

#4 Kansas Jayhawks (3-1) vs Chaminade Silverswords (2-0)
9pm ET on ESPNU
The Jayhwaks overcame atrocious 3-point shooting — they were 1 of 14 from downtown — to win 75-63 over East Tennessee State last week, thanks to Udoka Azubuike going 21-7 with 3 steals and 4 blocks. Chaminade is coming off an 85-56 win over Alaska Anchorage in which Tyler Cortaino scored 20 points with 4 boards and 3 dimes.

Tuesday, Nov. 26
Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks (4-1) vs #1 Duke Blue Devils (6-0)
9pm ET on ACCNX
The Lumberjacks are coming off their first loss of the season, a 69-57 defeat at the hands of Rutgers, thanks in part to hitting just 1 of 13 from beyond the arc. Vernon Carey Jr scored 20 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in the Blue Devils’ 81-73 victory over Georgetown, thus helping Coach K break John Wooden’s record of 217 wins as the coach of a #1-ranked team. Krzyzewski is 218-34 while at the top of the charts, while Wooden was a mind-boggling 217-11.
