Twirling on to television this October is Vampirina, a new series based on the books of nearly the same title by Anne Marie Pace.
The series, titled Vampirina follows a young vampire girl who is the new girl in town looking to fit in after her family relocates from Transylvania to Pennsylvania. The family runs a local bed and breakfast that specializes in providing accommodations for monster clientele visiting the area. Vampirina, known to her friends as “Vee,” isbe voiced by Izabella Crovetti (Colony). Her parents, Oaxana and Boris Hauntley will be voiced by Lauren Graham (Gilmore Girls) and James Van Der Beek (Dawson’s Creek), respectively. Patti LuPone, Brian Stokes Mitchell and Wanda Sykes round out the cast as Vee’s grandparents and her loyal gargoyle sidekick, Gregoria.
Many children’s shows center on a main character who is different from what society considers normal, and uses their story line to downplay or hide those differences, but Vampirina breaks out of that mold by showing her new friends and neighbors that even though she and her parents are vampires, they are not very different from everyone else, encouraging children not only to accept those who differ from themselves, but to celebrate those attributes that make each of us unique.
Vampirina will premiere Sunday, October 1 at 11am ET on Disney Channel and Disney Junior.
