At Sling TV, we’re constantly redefining the industry and breaking barriers to best serve consumers. Today, we’re giving Roku users who are new to Sling TV the ability to experience Sling without subscribing to programming or entering in any payment information. Select Roku users will be able to watch free shows and subscribe to standalone channels, without starting a free trial. These new users will be able to access the Sling TV app, which includes free on-demand shows, movies and even karaoke, and we will continue rolling out the update to all Roku users in the future. Earlier this year, we gave returning Sling TV customers more flexibility and control than ever before with the launch of the new Sling experience on Roku devices, and we are thrilled to open up a similar experience to new Sling TV users.
In addition to this, we’ve launched two new features to enhance your Sling TV experience on Roku. You’ll now see a cleaner search experience and a new binge-watching feature, which seamlessly transitions you to the next episode in an on-demand series.
Experience Sling TV Free Without an Account
New Sling TV users can now try Sling TV and watch free on-demand content without entering an email or credit card information. When opening the Sling TV app on a Roku device, new Sling TV users can click “browse as guest” to launch the Sling TV interface, where you can browse and watch ribbons of content from “My TV.”
On the My TV screen, Sling TV users will be able to:
- Access free episodes of TV shows: By browsing ribbons on MyTV, you can watch episodes of popular shows like Shameless, The Big Interview with Dan Rather, Heartland and more at no cost and without signing up for an account.
- Purchase PPV Events and Movies: Browse popular content and pay-per-view events for purchase, such as upcoming UFC events and over 5,000 movie titles – no base subscription to Sling necessary.
- Subscribe to A La Carte Channels: Binge-watch shows on Showtime or catch NBA games with NBA League Pass, available for purchase without a base subscription. You can also purchase channels like Stingray Karaoke, Curiosity Stream, Docurama and more à la carte options on Sling TV. As the only live OTT service to allow you to purchase à la carte channels without subscribing to a base service, Sling makes it easy to stream all of your favorite content in the same interface.
Easily Select Your Sling TV Services
Ready to subscribe to a Sling TV subscription, but can’t decide between Sling Orange, Sling Blue, or which Extras to add? We make it easy to determine which Sling subscription fits your interests, based on the content you love to watch. Browse shows and movies on any tab, and simply select what you want to watch. We’ll show you which subscription options we think match your preferences, and you can sign up directly within the app. Or, start a free trial of Sling TV by selecting the “Start your FREE trial now” button at the top of your “My TV” screen.
We will begin rolling out this new experience to new customers on Roku today and plan to expand to additional devices in the future. If you’re a new customer on Roku and don’t see a “browse as guest” button, don’t worry; this experience will be available to all new Sling users on Roku devices in the future.
In addition to providing access to free content, we’re making it easier to find the content you want to watch with the launch of our improved search. The new search screen automatically displays “Popular Searches,” allowing you to quickly browse through the most searched-for content each day.
Searching for your next show to binge? Now, when you search for content, results will be organized into categories like “Top Results,” “Movies,” “Shows” and “Channels,” so you can easily find what you’re looking for.
The new search interface is now available on Android TV, Amazon and Roku devices. Sling will continue to bring new search features to additional devices in the future.
With over 85,000 on-demand assets, binge-watching on Sling is a no-brainer. To make it easier for you, we are launching a new feature that prompts you to watch the next episode in an on-demand or recorded series (if available on Sling) once you’ve completed the current episode. Too lazy to pick up the remote? Our binge-watching feature will do all the work for you by playing the next episode automatically within ten seconds, even if you don’t select “Watch Now.” This feature will only appear if there is a subsequent episode existing in a series.
Binge-watching capability will become available on Roku devices in the coming weeks and will roll out to additional devices in the future.
